NSUK SPGS Introduces New Policies on Late Registration, Deferment, and Automatic Expiration of Admissions

The School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS), Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), has announced new regulatory policies aimed at improving the administration of postgraduate admissions and registrations. The policies were approved during the SPGS Management Committee meeting held on Monday, 8th June 2026, and were formally communicated through an internal memorandum dated 22nd June 2026 to all Deans, Directors of Institutes and Centres.

According to the memorandum, the new policies take immediate effect and are designed to address recurring challenges associated with delayed registrations, improper deferment procedures, and incomplete admissions. Under the new guidelines, any admitted candidate who fails to complete registration within one calendar year from the date of admission will have their admission automatically expire. In addition, the University’s Management Information Systems (MIS) Unit has been mandated to carry out an automated database sweep at the end of every academic session to permanently remove incomplete applications and the profiles of admitted students who have not completed their registration.

The policy also introduces a manual late registration fee of ₦20,000 per session for students clearing registration backlogs from the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 academic sessions. Furthermore, all requests for deferment of admission or late commencement of studies must now be processed formally through the applicant’s respective department and in accordance with established University regulations. The School has urged all Deans, Directors, departmental postgraduate committees, and students to take note of these changes and ensure strict compliance with the approved procedures.

The School of Postgraduate Studies encourages all postgraduate students to complete their registrations within the stipulated timelines and to follow the appropriate channels for any requests relating to deferment or late commencement, in order to avoid penalties or the automatic expiration of admission.
