CALL FOR RESEARCH GRANT PROPOSALS
(2nd Edition of the Vice Chancellor’s Research Grant Award)
The School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS), Nasarawa State University, Keffi, is pleased to announce the Call for Research Grant Proposals under the 2nd Edition of the Vice Chancellor’s Research Grant Award.
This initiative is part of the University’s commitment to promoting quality research, innovation, and scholarship among staff and postgraduate students, aimed at addressing societal challenges and contributing to sustainable development.
Thematic Areas Applicants are invited to submit proposals under any of the following broad thematic areas:
Science and Technology
- Biotechnology and Life Sciences
- Environmental and Agricultural Innovations
- Renewable Energy and Climate Change Adaptation
- Engineering, Computing, and Data Science
- Health and Biomedical Sciences
Arts and Humanities
- Education, Communication, and Language Studies
- History, Philosophy, and Cultural Studies
- Social and Management Sciences
- Law, Policy, and Governance
- Creative Arts and Indigenous Knowledge Systems
Eligibility
- PhD students of Nasarawa State University, Keffi who are fully registered and up to date on fees payment are eligible to apply.
- Each applicant must be affiliated with a Department, Centre, or Institute within the University.
Proposal Guidelines
- Maximum of 3,000 words, Times New Roman, 12 pt, 1.5 line spacing.
- Must include Include:
- Title: Give the title of the project. The title should not be more than 20 words.
- Executive Summary: Provides a summary of the research project paying attention to the short- and long-term goals of the research, the problems and opportunities the project will address and the methodology to be adapted (Not more than 300 words)
- Keywords: Provide a minimum of 3 and maximum of 5 keywords that describe your research project
- Background of the research project: Provide the general background of the research project as well as justification for the conduct of the research.
- Research Objectives: State clearly the main objective (Aim) and the specific objectives of the project. The objects must be SMART (Smart, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timebound)
- Statement of Problem: State clearly the problems to be addressed, including the scope of the research project
- Conceptual framework of the study: Provide the general framework for the conduct of the study geared towards addressing the research problems
- Research output and outcomes: Provide a summary of the research outputs (immediate results) to be realized as well as the expected outcomes (Short term benefits of the project
- Project impact: Provide information on broad and long-term impacts of the project within the context of social, economic and technological benefits. Identify the major activities of your project and the output expected at the end of each activity
2.0 Literature review: Provide detailed review of recent related works so as to properly situate the proposed research in the knowledge space in the field.
3.0 Research Methodology: Please provide sufficiently detailed description of the methodology of your proposed research. Describe the approaches to sampling and sample preparation, the appropriate procedures and equipment, and the data collection and analysis methods you will use to achieve the desired outputs of the project
4.0 Research Activity/Output indicator: All outputs are expected to contribute to the achievement of the overall objectives of the project
Proposals should demonstrate originality, feasibility, and relevance to national or community development.

Deadline for Submission: Friday, 4TH Dec 2025
Successful applicants will be recognized and presented with their awards during an award ceremony that will be communicated.
Prizes: 1st: 500,000 naira
2nd: 300,000 naira
3rd: 200,000 naira
